Detail | : | Low Res. ( 148 KB) / Mid. Res. ( 974 KB) / High Res. ( 9.7 MB) NGC 748 is a spiral galaxy located in the direction of Cetus, displaying beautiful and well-defined spiral arms. From Earth, we observe its stellar disk at an angle, revealing a color gradient from the inner to the outer regions. This change in color reflects differences in the stellar population: the reddish inner region indicates older stars, while the bluish outer region indicates younger stars. Spiral galaxies, also known as disk galaxies, have a thin stellar disk relative to their diameter. Tilted galaxies like NGC 748 clearly illustrate this characteristic.
