To those who have a computer account at Subaru Telescope,
Now, we, NAOJ, are planning to replace our computers.
Since size of our computer system goes small, computers and data storage
for open-use users will be largely downsized. Corresponding to the
changes, the way to manage the computer accounts will be changed. For
those who think the eight items mentioned below matter, please check the
detailed information at http://www.naoj.org/stn/ . There is important
information which is not included in this email.
Those mentioned below is a tentative plan, based on our
best expectation now; therefore, the future dates for each event are
subject to change, depending on progress of transition work. We will
keep you informed of changes of dates that may be critical to you. All
the dates mentioned are in Hawai‘i Standard Time.
This email has been sent to all the e-mail addresses
currently registered at our account database. In case when you have
changed the address without a notice to us, you will not get email from
us. We appreciate if you accordingly forward this email to other users
of Subaru Telescope computer system. We apologize for any inconvenience
this computer replacement may cause you and thank you for your
understanding and cooperation. If you any question, please feel free to
contact Junichi Noumaru at helpdesk＠naoj.org.
1. Data backup
We will accept data backup by you or by request until
December 31, 2007. Please be advised that we won’t accept the data
backup request after the due date.
2. On your computer account (the account for STARS and g
workstation)
Computer accounts of those who do not belong to Subaru
Telescope and which were created in conjunction with observation will be
moved to specialized accounts for STARS/MASTARS after February 15, 2008.
Other computer accounts of those who do not belong to Subaru Telescope
will not be moved to specialized accounts for STARS/MASTARS and will be
purged. Only access to the STARS/MASTARS will be available with the
STARS/MASTARS account.
3. Application of a computer account of Subaru Telescope
We will issue a computer account besides the STARS/MASSTERS
account upon your request and Subaru Telescope’s approval. However, we
will suspend to accept your application in February 2008 due to the
transition of the system.
4. Forward settings of emails
The forward settings of email is available for those who
will have a STARS/MASTARS account and would like to forward emails
received by foo＠naoj.org
to the other email address. We will accept your application until
January 31, 2008.
5. /home and mail data for those who will lose the
computer account
The data will be all archived, and the download service
will be available.
6. Limitations in operation of STARS and MASTARS
Operation of both STARS and MASTARS will change due to
the computer transition. Also, registration of data obtained from summit
might be delayed.
7. For those who make an observation by January 31, 2008.
Scratch area will be available until February 15, 2008.
Despite of display you will see when you create a scratch area, it will
become inaccessible and all the files in the scratch area will be
destroyed on February 16, 2008.
8. For those who make an observation between February 1
and 29, 2008.
Please apply for a new STARS/MASTARS account and for a
group registration for Co-I by January 31, 2008. In February, both
services will be stopped. Also, registration of data coming from
instruments to STARS/MASTARS will probably run late in maximum three
days. Scratch area will be available by February 15, 2008. Once again,
despite of display you will see when you create a scratch area, it will
become inaccessible on February 16, 2008.

ハワイ観測所の計算機アカウントをお持ちの方へ重要なおしらせ
国立天文台では、現在計算機のリプレイスの作業を進めています。今回のリプレイスでは計算機の規模の見直しが行われ、その結果共同利用ユーザに供する計算機やデータストレージが大幅に削減されました。これに対応して、アカウントの管理方法についても見直しを行うこととなりました。下記の8点が重要と思われる方は、http://www.naoj.org/stn/
にて詳細な情報をご確認ください。このメールには含まれない重要な情報が含まれています。
なお、以下に記述してある将来の日付は現時点で予測されるものです。実際の日程は作業の進捗により前後することがあります。重要な日付の変更については、その都度お知らせします。なお、日付の表示はすべてハワイ時間です。
このメールは現時点での計算機アカウントのデータベースに登録されているメールアドレス宛にお送りしています。メールアドレスが変更され、ハワイ観測所にご連絡がない場合にはメールが届きません。このメールを適宜、お近くのハワイ観測所計算機ユーザの方に転送していただけると幸いです。今回の計算機リプレイスとそれに伴うシステム変更に際し、一部の方にはご不便をおかけいたしますが、皆さんのご理解とご協力をお願いいたします。

１．データのバックアップ
データのバックアップの依頼、およびご自身によるバックアップは12月31日まで受け付けます。それ以降は受け付けませんのでご注意ください。
２．皆さんの観測所の計算機アカウント(STARSおよびgワークステーションのアカウント)の取り扱いについて
ハワイ観測所に所属しないユーザで観測に関連して作成された計算機アカウントは2008年2月15日以降、STARS/MASTARS専用アカウントに移行します。その他のハワイ観測所に所属しないユーザの計算機アカウントはSTARS/MASTARS専用アカウントに移行されず、2008年2月15日に廃止されます。STARS/MASTARS専用アカウントでは、STARS/MASTARSへのアクセス以外の機能は使えなくなります。
３．ハワイ観測所の計算機アカウントについて
観測所が必要と認める方には、STARS/MASTARS専用アカウントとは別個の、ハワイ観測所の計算機アカウントを発行します。ただし、2008年2月はシステムの移行のため、受付いたしません。
４．電子メールの転送設定
STARS/MASTARS専用アカウントをお持ちの方で、foo @
naoj.org宛に来たメールを他のメールアドレス宛に転送してほしい方はご利用ください。2008年1月31日まで受け付けます。
５．計算機アカウントがなくなる方の/homeおよびメールデータについて
観測所で一括してアーカイブ化し、ダウンロードサービスを行います。
６．STARSおよびMASTARSの運用制限について
どちらも計算機の移行により運用形態が変わります。また、山頂で観測されたデータの登録に遅延が生じることがあります。
７．2008年1月31日までに観測される方へ
スクラッチ領域は2月15日まで利用可能です。スクラッチ領域作成時の表示にかかわらず2月16日以降は利用できなくなり、その時点でディスクにあったファイルはすべて削除されます。
８．2008年2月1日から2月29日の間に観測される方へ
STARS およびMASTARSアカウントの新規登録、およびCo-Iのグループ登録は1月31日までにお申し込みください。2月中はどちらの登録もサービスを停止します。また、観測装置からのデータがSTARSおよびMASTARSに登録されるまで、最大3日程度の遅延がでる見込みです。スクラッチ領域は2月15
日まで利用可能です。スクラッチ領域作成時の表示にかかわらず2月16日以降は利用できなくなります。
