To those who have a computer account at Subaru Telescope,
Now, we, NAOJ, are planning to replace our computers. As
we already informed, the deadline for data backup, which is the end of
December, is approaching. In the new system, your existing accounts are
moved to the specialized account for STARS/MASTARS, and data analysis
computers will be gone.
Those mentioned below is a tentative plan, based on our
best expectation now; therefore, the future dates for each event are
subject to change, depending on progress of transition work. We will
keep you informed of changes of dates that may be critical to you. All
the dates mentioned are in Hawai‘i Standard Time.
This email has been sent to all the e-mail addresses
currently registered at our account database. In case when you have
changed the address without a notice to us, you will not get email from
Subaru Telescope. We appreciate if you accordingly forward this e-mail
to other users of Subaru Telescope computer system. For information
about transition of computers, please also check the website,
http://www.naoj.org/stn/. We apologize for any inconvenience this
computer replacement may cause you and thank you for your understanding
and cooperation. If you any question, please feel free to contact
Junichi Noumaru at helpdesk＠naoj.org.
1. Data backup
As we already informed in August, acceptance of backup
request of group area (/grp) is due on December 31, 2007 and data backup
for /home, /scr/local, /ksdatNN, web and e-mails by users will be
allowed until December 31, 2007. After that, we will not accept a
request for backup of group area. Also, /home, /scr/home, /ksdatNN, web
and e-mails become not accessible intermittently between January 1 and
February 14 due to transition work. Then, it will stop operation on
February 15, 2008.
2. On your computer account (accounts in STARS and g
workstation)
Computer accounts of those who do not belong to Subaru
Telescope and which were created in conjunction with observation will be
automatically moved to specialized accounts for STARS/MASTARS after
February 15, 2008. Other computer accounts of those who do not belong to
Subaru Telescope will not be moved to specialized accounts for STARS/MASTARS
and will be purged on February 15, 2008. Only access to the STARS/MASTARS
will be available with the STARS/MASTARS account.
New STARS system allows you to transfer data to your
computer without using the scratch area we have. Also, new STARS/MASTARS
account will be only for access to the STARS/MASTARS. g work stations
will be removed and not be replaced. Transition of accounts and start of
the new account operation are planed on February 16, 2008.
There are couple things, which will not be available,
after the transition of your account to the new specialized STARS/MASTARS
account.

Login to g-ws and a-ws (computers will be removed.)

Login to SOS computers at the summit and remote computers
(management of SOSS account will not change).

The list of accounts which will be moved to STARS/MASTARS
accounts and which will be purged will be prepared. We will announce
when it is ready for your view.
3. Application of a computer account of Subaru Telescope
We will issue a computer account besides the STARS/MASTARS
account upon your request and Subaru Telescope’s approval. The computer
account is totally separate from STARS/MASTARS account. Please e-mail a
request to

We review your request and decide if we issue an account
for you. If you have a computer account now and if you need only access
to STARS/MASTARS, you do not need to send a request. We will transfer
your account accordingly. We will not accept your application in
February 2008 due to the transition of the system. An account that has
no activity in six months will be locked without a notice due to
security reasons. Subaru computer users must agree at the user policy
and usage guidelines of National Astronomical Observatory of Japan and
of Subaru Telescope. The use of Subaru Telescope e-mail address (foo@naoj.org)
is limited to Subaru Telescope staff, students and affiliates.
4. Forward settings of emails
The use of Subaru Telescope e-mail address (foo@naoj.org)
is limited to Subaru Telescope staff, students and affiliates. We will
set the system so that emails received by foo＠naoj.org
are forwarded to the other email address. Please e-mail the following
information to
helpdesk@naoj.org no later than January 31, 2007;

This service is available until September 1, 2008 without
extension. Please request e-mail senders who use
foo@naoj.org to change you’re the destination within the forwarding
period. The forwarding service will be discontinued without a notice to
the user if we found a bounced e-mail from the forwarded recipient.
5. /home and mail data for those who will lose the
computer account
Those who will lose a computer account, including those
whose account will be transferred to STARS/MASTARS account, will not be
able to access your home directory as well as the e-mail server after
February 15, 2008. We will archive files in your home directory and your
e-mail messages into one file (tar), and provide it with the user. This
archive will take two weeks and the archived file will be available for
download only by the user after March 1, 2008. The access to the file
will require your user name and password.
6. Limitations in operation of STARS and MASTARS
Both Hawaii-based data archive system STARS and Mitaka-based
data archive system MASTARS will change due to the computer transition
during the same period. The following is the operation plan of STARS and
MASTARS as we currently anticipate.

Observation data made in S07B and S08A will be registered
in both STARS and MASTARS as it is done now, even during the computer
transition (until February 29, 2008). PI for S08A programs will be done
as usual. However, new user registration and Co-I registration to a
group will be suspended in February 2008. If you make an observation in
February and if you want Co-I to access data in STARS/MASTARS in
February, make a request of new user registration and/or Co-I
registration to a group by January 31, 2008. We will accept Co-I
registration to a group only requested by the PI.
7. For those who make an observation by January 31, 2008.
There is no change for computer system until January 31,
2008. MASTARS transition will have been started but STARS operates as it
does now. E-mails and g-workstation still work.
Scratch area will be available until February 15, 2008.
Despite of display you will see when you create a scratch area, it will
become inaccessible and all the files in the scratch area will be
destroyed on February 16, 2008. Complete data backup by then.
8. For those who make an observation between February 1
and 29, 2008.
If you need to use STARS/MASTARS in February and if you
do not have a computer account, apply an account to
helpdesk@naoj.org by January 31, 2008. We will not accept a request
for a new computer account, current STARS/MASTARS account or new STARS/MASTARS
account. We will by default create a computer account and/or STARS/MASTARS
account for PI even without a request from PI. If Co-I needs to access
STARS/MASTARS in February, PI must request a Co-I registration to a
proposal group by January 31, 2008 since we won’t accept a Co-I
registration request in February 1 through February 29.
Scratch area will be available until February 15, 2008.
Despite of display you will see when you create a scratch area, it will
become inaccessible and all the files in the scratch area will be
destroyed on February 16, 2008. Complete data backup by then.
Use MASTARS (B) between February 15 and March 1, 2008
when STARS stops operation and new STARS is yet to start. At this time,
only those who had an account on sb-workstations in Mitaka as of
November 5, 2007 have an access to MASTARS (B). If you need a MASTARS
(B) account, please refer to
http://sbwww.sb.nao.ac.jp/info/ which will be available by early
January 2008.
Between February 16 and February 29, new data
registration to MASTARS (B) may delay by a few days due to system
transition. We recommend to make a local copy from ana/hana to your own
computer at the summit or in the Hilo remote observation room for quick
retrieval of observation data.
Here’s the list of events in order of time;
December 31, 2007: Request for backup of group area is
due.
December 31, 2007: Data backup from /home, /scr/local, /ksdat,
web and mail servers by users is due.
January 31, 2008: Mail forwarding request is due.
January 31, 2008: Last day for new computer account
request
January 31, 2008: Last day for new user request for
STARS/MASTARS and for group registration request for Co-I
February 15, 2008: Transfer of computer accounts to
STARS/MASTARS accounts. Operation of STARS/MASTARS accounts start.
February 15, 2008: Last day for current STARS and scratch
area service. New STARS will be in test operation. Use MASTARS (B) until
February 29. Anticipate a few day delays for new data registration to
MASTARS (B).
March 1, 2008: /home data and e-mail message archive
available for download.
March 1, 2008: Resume new computer account registration.
March 1, 2008: Resume new STARS/MASTARS account
registration and group registration for Co-I.
September 1, 2008: Remove /home and e-mail archive files
and close the download site.
September 1, 2008: Close e-mail forwarding service.
ハワイ観測所の計算機アカウントをお持ちの方へ重要なおしらせ
国立天文台では、現在計算機のリプレイスの作業を進めています。以前にもお知らせしましたように、データのバックアップをお願いしているところですが、その締め切りが１２月末と迫ってきました。
新規のシステムでは従来のアカウントを STARSやMASTARS
専用アカウントに移行し、これまであった共同利用ユーザ向けの解析環境を廃止します。
以下に記述してある将来の日付は現時点で予測されるものです。実際の日程は作業の進捗により前後することがあります。重要な日付の変更については、その都度お知らせします。なお、日付の表示はすべてハワイ時間です。
このメールは現時点での計算機アカウントのデータベースに登録されているメールアドレス宛にお送りしています。メールアドレスが変更され、ハワイ観測所にご連絡がない場合にはメールが届きません。このメールを適宜、ハワイ観測所計算機ユーザの方に転送していただけると幸いです。計算機の移行につきましては、http://www.naoj.org/stn/
もご参照下さい。
今回の計算機リプレイスとそれに伴うシステム変更に際し、一部の方にはご不便をおかけいたしますが、皆さんのご理解とご協力をお願いいたします。

１．データのバックアップ 8 月にお知らせしましたように、グループ領域(/grp)のバックアップの受付、およびユーザご自身による/home, /scr/local, /ksdatNN,
web/メールサーバのデータのバックアップの期限は12月31日です。これ以降はグループ領域のバックアップ要求は受け付けません。また、/home,
/scr/local, /ksdatNN,
web/メールサーバへは、1月1日から2月14日の間は移行作業に伴い不定期に接続できなくなり、2月15日に運用を停止します。
２．計算機アカウント(STARSおよびgワークステーションのアカウント)の取り扱いについて
ハワイ観測所に所属しないユーザで観測に関連して作成された計算機アカウント(gワークステーションのアカウント)は2008年2月15日以降、新しい
STARSおよびMASTARSのアカウントに自動的に移行いたします。その他のハワイ観測所に所属しないユーザの計算機アカウントは STARS/MASTARS専用アカウントに移行されず、2008年2月15日に廃止されます。
新しいSTARSでは、観測所のスクラッチ領域を使用することなく、データをご自身がお持ちの計算機に転送することが可能となります。また、新しいSTARSとMASTARSのアカウントは、
STARSおよびMASTARSにアクセスするための専用アカウントとなります。gワークステーションは計算機の更新に伴い撤去され、代替機は導入されません。アカウントの移行と運用開始は2008年2月16日を想定しています。この日から、皆さんの計算機アカウントがSTARS/MASTARS専用アカウントに移行することにより、以下のことができなくなります。
- メール送受信、Webmailの利用
- g-wsやa-wsへのログイン(計算機自体がなくなります)
一方、皆さんの計算機アカウントがSTARS/MASTARS専用アカウントに移行しても、以下のことは可能です。
- 山頂のSOS計算機およびリモート計算機へのログイン(SOSSのアカウント管理は従来通りです)
- anaの利用
- anaからのデータ取得
- 新しいSTARSとMASTARSからのデータ転送
- 観測所とHPオフィスのプリンタ、Linux Machineの利用
- 持ち込み計算機のネットワークへの接続
- イントラネットWebサーバによる観測者に必要な情報提供(内部ネットワークからのアクセス時のみ)
- foo@naoj.org宛に送られたメールのご自身のメールアドレスへの転送(受け付けたもののみ、期間限定)
- アカウント閉鎖時点のhomeおよびメールメッセージの一括ダウンロード
移行・廃止対象のアカウント一覧は準備できしだいご案内いたします。
３．ハワイ観測所の計算機アカウントについて ハワイ観測所が観測所の運用に関連する業務などで必要と認めた方へは、ハワイ観測所の計算機アカウントを発行いたします。計算機アカウントは
STARS/MASTARS専用アカウントとは全く別個のものです。ご希望の方は以下の内容の明記の上、helpdesk @ naoj.orgまでご連絡ください。
- 希望されるアカウント名
- 氏名
- 所属先、所属先住所
- 連絡用メールアドレス
- 電話番号
- 接続先の計算機名を含むアクセスの目的
- STARS/MASTARSアカウントが必要かどうか
内容を審査の上、アカウントの作成可否を判断させていただきます。現在観測所の計算機アカウントをお持ちの方で、STARS/MASTARSへのアクセスのみを希望される方は、この手続きは必要ありません。観測所でアカウントの移行手続きを行います。また、2008年2月は新規のアカウントの受付を停止いたします。6ヶ月間アクセスがないアカウントについては、セキュリティ対策のため、連絡なくロックいたします。計算機アカウントを持つユーザは、国立天文台およびハワイ観測所のユーザ規約や使用ガイドラインに同意するものとします。また、ハワイ観測所のメールアドレス(foo
@ naoj.org)の利用は、ハワイ観測所に所属する(本務・併任を含む)職員・学生などに限らせていただきます。
４．電子メールの転送設定
ハワイ観測所のメールアドレス(foo @ naoj.org)
の利用は、ハワイ観測所に所属する(本務・併任を含む)職員・学生などに限らせていただきます。ただし、現在foo @
naoj.org宛に届いているメールを他のメールアドレス宛に転送することは、内部ネットワークへのアクセスやメール送受信とは無関係に設定可能です。メール転送をご希望の方は、以下の内容を1月31日までにhelpdesk
@ naoj.orgまでお送りください。
- 現在のユーザ名
- 転送先のメールアドレス（1個のみ）
- 連絡用のメールアドレス
なお、この転送サービスは2008年9月1日までとし、再延長は行いません。この間にメールの送信先にメールアドレスの変更手続きなどをお済ませください。なお、転送先からメールがバウンスした場合には、ユーザへの連絡なしに転送を取り消します。
５．計算機アカウントがなくなる方の/homeおよびメールデータについて
計算機アカウントがなくなる方(計算機アカウントがSTARS/MASTARS専用アカウントに移行される方を含む)は、/homeおよびメールサーバにたまっているメッセージに2008年2月15日以降、アクセスできなくなります。そのため、ハワイ観測所では/homeおよびメールサーバのデータをまとめてアーカイブ化(tar)し、アカウントの所有者にお渡しする手続きを行います。このアーカイブ化の作業には2週間を見込んでおり、2008年3月1日から、アカウントの所有者にインターネット経由でパスワードによるアクセス制限をかけた上でダウンロードできるようにする予定です。
６．STARSおよびMASTARSの運用について
データアーカイブシステムであるハワイのSTARSおよび三鷹のMASTARSは計算機の更新が同時におこなわれるため、利用できるシステムおよび運用上の制限があります。現時点で想定しているSTARSおよびMASTARSの運用予定は以下の通りです。
ヒロのSTARS
- 現在-2008年2月15日 現在のSTARS
- 2008年2月16日-2月29日 新しいSTARSの仮運用
- 2008年3月1日- 新しいSTARS
三鷹のMASTARS
- 現在-2007年12月31日 現在のMASTARSおよびMASTARS(B)
- 2008年1月1日-2月29日 MASTARS(B)
- 2008年3月1日- 新しいMASTARS
2 月29日までの移行期間中でも、S07BおよびS08Aセメスターの観測データはSTARSおよびMASTARSに登録されます。また、S08AのPIをユーザ登録する作業も予定通り行います。ただし、2008年2月1日から2月29日の間は、システム移行のため新規ユーザ登録および新規グループ登録は停止いたします。この期間に観測される方で、Co-IによるSTARS/MASTARSのデータアクセスを必要とする方は、1月31日までにPIの方がCo
-Iユーザのグループへの登録をお申し込みください。必要な場合には、Co-Iの方の新規ユーザ登録の申し込みも1月31日までにお済ませください。
７．2008年1月31日までに観測される方へ2008
年1月31日までは基本的に観測に関わる計算機システムに変更はありません。MASTARSの移行作業は始まっていますが、STARSは現在と同じ形式で運用しています。また、メールやgワークステーションも稼働しています。なお、スクラッチ領域の運用は2月15日で停止いたします。1月15日以降にスクラッチ領域を作成された場合、有効期限として2月15日以降の日付が表示されることがありますが、表示にかかわらず、スクラッチ領域は2月15日をもって停止いたします。データのバックアップはそれまでにお願いします。
８．2008年2月1日から2月29日の間に観測される方へ
現在のSTARSを使うために計算機システムのアカウントを新規に希望される方は1月31日までにhelpdesk @ naoj.orgにご連絡ください。このとき作られたアカウントは2月15日にSTARS/MASTARS専用アカウントに移行します。なお、現在の
STARSは2月15日で運用を停止します。2月1日から2月29日の間は計算機アカウント、現在のSTARS、新STARSのいずれに関わるアカウントの新規受付を行いません。PIのグループ登録は観測所で行いますので、PIの方のみがSTARS/MASTARSにアクセスされる場合にはこれ以上の手続きは必要ありません。Co-IによるSTARS/MASTARSのデータアクセスを必要とする方は、1月31日までにCo-Iユーザのグループへの登録をPIの方がお申し込みください。STARSのグループへの新規登録も2月1日から2月29日まで停止いたします。
スクラッチ領域の運用は2月15日で停止いたします。1月15日以降にスクラッチ領域を作成された場合、有効期限として2月15日以降の日付が表示されることがありますが、表示にかかわらず、スクラッチ領域は2月15日をもって停止し、データはすべて消滅いたします。データのバックアップはそれまでにお願いします。
2 月15日にはSTARSが運用を停止し、新しいSTARSは3月1日から運用を開始する予定です。この間のデータアーカイブは、MASTARS
(B)をご利用ください。MASTARS(B) のアカウントは 11月5日の時点で三鷹 sb
系にアカウントをお持ちだった方に限られています。新規アカウント取得方法は１月上旬までに
http://sbwww.sb.nao.ac.jp/info/ にて広報されます。
なお、この期間(2月16日-2月29日)は、システムの移行が進行していますので、MASTARS(B)ではデータ登録に数日の遅れがでる可能性があります。観測データを迅速に受け取るためには、山頂またはヒロのリモート室でご自身のコンピュータへのローカルコピーをおすすめします。
