Pupil Plane Apodizers
We are using several different pupil plane apodizer designs for the PIAA lab experiment.
All designs are binary masks with alternating reflective and transparent rings used in transmission.
The apodizers were manufactured by HTA photomask on a 25mm diameter quartz substrate. They are designed for a 5.93mm pupil diameter.

Focal Plane Masks
These masks are used in transmission. The "dark hole" region is transmitted to the science camera: it is a D-shaped opening for mask type 1 and a full annulus for mask type 2. The very central part of the masks (100 micron radius) is opaque. The 100 micron radius to 200 micron radius annulus is reflective, used for the sensing of low order aberrations. The "dark hole" is transmissive and the outer part (>550 micron radius) of the mask is opaque.
These masks were manufactured by HTA photomask on a 25mm diameter quartz substrate.
