In Subaru office of HalePohaku lodge,
there are three Redhat 7.1 Linux machines (hp1.naoj.hawaii.edu, hp2.naoj.hawaii.edu, hp3.naoj.hawaii.edu)
are available for open use observers.
You can login to these workstations with accounts indicated your account sheet or
the notes at side of the Linux machines.
These machines are outside of Subaru Telescope Network, and some usages are
restricted.
What YOU CAN DO...
You can read/write E-mails with kterm, mule, netscape and so on.
You can edit "operation file" for your observing run (offline, need ftp after editing). In detail, see here .
You can reduce your data with IRAF, and so on. For available softwares, please refer a note
side of these machines.
You can print out with a PostScript printer "hp4100".
You can access to gate1.naoj.org and gate2.naoj.org in Hilo base facility. Use "ssh -X -l gate1.naoj.org".
What YOU CANNOT DO....
You should note : HP machines are OUTSIDE of Subaru Network.
You can not access to the Subaru machines at summit (including ana, aws, poliahu, haukea).
You can not access to Subaru Telescope ARchive System DIRECTRY. You need to start up netscape on gate1.naoj.org and gate2.naoj.org, and save your data in a scratch directry in these machines. After that you can ftp, scp your data to the hp1, hp2, and hp3 Linux machines.
If you prefer to use Windows machine, there is a Windows2000 laptop machine
between "hp2" and "hp1".
If you have your own
lap-top PC, you can connect that with blue E-thernet cables or Wire-less LAN.
