Effect of Mirror Hatch Incident on Open Use Observations of Subaru Telescope (Final Report)

Subaru Telescope completed a series of repair works of the broken mirror hatch (Note) in July 2017, and confirmed that the hatch was fully and safely operational in August 2017. Subaru Telescope also implemented the measures to prevent a recurrence that was devised from the cause of the incident.

The next works of the primary mirror recoating, which have been postponed from the summer of 2016 due to the hatch incident, will be done from October to December 2017 as announced.

Note: Mirror hatch is on the floor of the telescope that opens to let the 8.2 m primary mirror of the Subaru Telescope go downstairs when it receives fresh recoating.
