SUBARU OPERATIONS ASSOCIATE – ID# 16285.

National Astronomical Observatory of Japan. Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), Subaru Telescope Project, located in Hilo, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.


MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY: $2,320/Mon.


DUTIES:
As a member of the Science Operations Division, assists Division Chiefs and Group Leaders by providing coordination and support for NAOJ Subaru Operations. Responsible for maintenance of the daytime and nighttime schedules of the Subaru Telescope operations. Collects and organizes information relevant to the operations of the Divisions and Groups, arranges and makes them available to the project staff with digital/electronic systems. Keeps track of the statistical records of the observations. Assists to initiate and propose improvements to the operation.


PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Business, Accounting, or other related field (Associate’s Degree from an accredited community college and at least three (3) years of experiences relevant to the duties and responsibilities may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree).


EXPERIENCE:
At least two (2) years of administrative and coordination work experience with a business or governmental entity.


ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:
Knowledge of business English and acceptable office practices and procedures. Some knowledge of data management. Considerable knowledge of office software. Able to initiate, plan, and propose an effective use of administrative support system. Able to utilize current information technology, and also technical terminology used in the Subaru telescope systems. Good verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in Japanese language speaking, both verbal and writing. Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain throughout the duration of employment.


PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Able to work at high altitude (Mauna Kea: 4,200 meters).
Post Offer/Employment Condition:
Must be able to work at 14,000 feet and pass a post offer high-altitude medical exam.
