Detail | : | The launch of the laser was imaged from within the enclosure of the Subaru Telescope. After two and a half years of the suspension, the laser guide star system has come back to send a brighter laser beam into the skies. The laser beam produced by the laser head at the side of the telescope (the silver box seen on the left) is emitted to the laser-launching telescope behind the secondary mirror through the mirror-based transfer system. The 50-cm laser-launching telescope magnifies the laser beam to the diameter of 30 cm, and sends it to the direction of a target. (Credit: NAOJ) |
