The Milky Way Galaxy consists of a lot of stars. Do you know why stars have different colors and brightness in the night sky? The difference of colors is caused by difference of the temperature: hotter stars look pale blueish and cooler stars look reddish. The brightness of stars is determined by the luminosity (brightness of the star itself) and distance to the star: farther stars from us look fainter, and closer stars look brighter.
