(this is a partial resubmission of a previously-accepted proposal impacted by weather). We propose SCExAO/CHARIS follow-up of two faint, likely directly-imaged exoplanets or very low-mass brown dwarf identified by SCExAO and VLT/SPHERE as a part of the highly-successful accelerating star surveys. In each system, imaging data detect a faint point source consistent with a planet/brown dwarf responsible for the primary star’s statistically-significant acceleration. In one case, spectra show that the companion lies at the critical L/T transition probing the dissipation of clouds. New data will confirm all three companions as bound objects and yield high quality JHK spectra that better constrain’s the companions’ atmospheres and dynamical masses. Together with the recently confirmed planet HIP 99770 b, these companions could establish, for the first time, a new sample of exoplanets and brown dwarfs with known ages, dynamical masses, and atmospheric properties, allowing an unrivalled look at the atmospheric evolution of exoplanets and brown dwarfs as a function of mass.
