We propose to use SWIMS (or MOIRCS as backup) to obtain near-IR spectra of 30 high-probability young free-floating planets of the Upper Scorpius association discovered by our team. This is by far the largest and cleanest sample of free-floating planets in one of the nearest (145pc) star forming region, thus allowing us to statistically study these faint objects for the first time. The proposed spectra will be obtained with the HK grism that offers the best compromise between the sensitivity to our ultracool and very red targets, the resolution and the presence of important spectral features for the classification and characterisation. They will allow us to confirm the nature of these exiting objects, their youth and to study the atmosphere of young planetary mass objects with unprecedented sensivity and details thanks to the absence of a bright host star.
