This is a proposal to confirm the Lyα emission line of two candidates of Lyman Continuum Emitters (LCEs) selected with HSC narrow-band imaging observations (the CHORUS project). They are z=4.9 LAE candidates whose Lyman continuum (LyC) photons are significantly detected with corresponding narrow-band imaging. The fraction of LyC photons escaping from galaxies into the surrounding intergalactic medium, fesc, is one of the most important yet poorly constrained physical quantities of star-forming galaxies (SFGs). The direct measurements of fesc for SFGs at z<4 are still limited, especially for low-mass, low UV luminosity galaxies which are supposed to be primary sources of cosmic reionization at z>6. With the unique wide field of HSC, we selected the best candidates of LCEs at z=4.9. Our targets are the highest redshift of direct LyC detections if we confirm their redshifts. Our objectives are (1) to confirm their Lyα emission line, (2) to check the foreground contamination, and (3) spectroscopic confirmation of LyC photons for z=4.9 LCEs, through FOCAS MOS-mode spectroscopy.
