This proposal is a resubmission of our allocated observations of S18B0070N and S19A0152S that were cancelled due to the power outage and the suspension at Maunakea, respectively. We propose MOIRCS ultra deep imaging of the largest (∼ 460 pkpc) and the brightest (LLyα ∼ 1.4 × 1045 erg s−1) giant Lyα nebula, Slug Nebula at z=2.283. We aim at widely mapping out intergalactic Hα λ6563 emission in the giant Lyα nebula with the BrG narrowband filter that covers the Hα emission at z=2.283. Our goal is to spatially test whether the extended Lyα emission is mainly originated from i) recombination radiation from Hi gas on intergalactic filaments that has been photo-ionized/illuminated by the host QSOs or ii) resonant scattering of Lyα photons produced in the QSOs and/or produced in cooling radiation of gas accretion. We will reveal the intergalactic Hα emission by subtracting our deep Magellan/FourStar Ks-band data from the MORICS BrG data, and distinguish these two mechanisms by spatially measuring Lyα/Hα ratios in the giant Lyα nebula that are critical indicators of the case-B recombination. The intergalactic Hα distribution will provide gas properties of intergalactic filaments around the host QSO.
