We propose Keck/MOSFIRE spectroscopy for three Lyman break galaxies at zspec=6.029-6.203 uniquely identified in the ∼400 deg2 wide Subaru/Hyper Suprime-Cam survey. Our targets are remarkably luminous with LUV∼8× LUV* and distinct from previously studied z>6 galaxies. They have been selected to lie within the extended non-Schechter portion of the galaxy luminosity function at z≃6 whose existence may represent the onset of AGN feedback which later suppresses the growth of such luminous systems. Together with results from our ALMA program which has detected [Cii]158µm and [Oiii]88µm emission from all three targets, we will exploit rest-frame UV emission lines to test for the presence of AGN as well as to measure the gas-phase metallicity and nature of the radiation field. By targeting these rare ‘transition objects’ only visible at z≃6 and only detectable in the panoramic HSC dataset, our program will provide unique insight into the metal enrichment and the early development of AGN activity and its role in cosmic reionization.
