We aim to detect and characterize companion candidates around three intermediate-mass pre-main sequence (Herbig Be/Ae) stars. The companion candidates have either been previously detected or strong indications exist of their existence. All three systems are surrounded by circumstellar gas and dust. High-contrast imaging with Subaru/SCExAO/CHARIS, using the vector Apodizing Phase Plate coronagraph will enable us to confirm these detections, while the J-K band spectra will allow us to classify the companion candidates. Simultaneous SCExAO/VAMPIRES observations will allow us to image the circumstellar surroundings, providing an additional tool to disentangle between the dusty circumstellar surroundings and companions and probe interaction between the two.
