(Proposal ID) S16A-085 (PI) Yamada, Toru (Proposal Title) Huge volume tomographic survey in the SSA22 proto-cluster with Keck/DEIMOS (Abstract) We conduct wide-field spectroscopy with Keck/DEIMOS toward the SSA22 field in order to reveal (i) the correlation between galaxies and H{i} in the intergalactic medium (IGM) in three-dimensional space quantitatively and (ii) the circumgalactic medium (CGM) of Lyman break galaxies (LBGs), Lyalpha emitters (LAEs), and Lyalpha blobs (LABs) in various galaxy environments, by using about 800 spectra of LBGs at 2.5 < z < 5.5. Regarding (i), we will map the H{i} 3D distribution in the known proto-cluster at z=3.1 in the field by using spectra of background galaxies. Regarding (ii), we will analyze the same spectra as a function of the projected distance from galaxies, in particular LAEs and LABs, and visualize the radial dependence of H{i} and some metal absorptions in the CGM of these proto-cluster galaxies. We also make the same analysis for galaxy overdensities and voids found at other redshift along the sight-line, revealing the IGM H{i}--galaxy correlation in these structures and the CGM of various galaxies in various environments at 2.5 < z < 5. This project is a two-year collaboration with a team in the University of California. While 5 nights were awarded in 15B (2 Subaru, 3 UC), the first 2 nights (Subaru) were lost due to the bad weather. We here propose to recover them in S16A.
