(Proposal ID) S13A-083 (PI) Umetsu, Keiichi (Proposal Title) A Unique Cluster Mass Profile Dataset from an HST-Subaru Survey Program III (Abstract) We propose to continue our ongoing cluster lensing program (S10B-059, S12A-063; PI: K. Umetsu) and complete deep BR_c z' imaging with Suprime-Cam (S-Cam) for the remaining 4 out of 25 massive clusters of galaxies in the the Cluster Lensing And Supernova survey with Hubble (CLASH), which has been awarded 524 orbits of Hubble Space Telescope(HST) time. The CLASH is conducting a joint weak and strong lensing (WL and SL) study of the cluster mass distributions for a representative sample of 25 massive X-ray clusters (0.15 <~ z <~ 0.9, T_X >~ 5,keV). This extensive HST cluster survey builds on wide-field Subaru images to yield detailed lensing profiles over the full radial range, from 10kpc to beyond 2000kpc. By combining the highest quality HST SL data in the cluster cores with wide-field Subaru/S-Cam WL data we will (1) measure individual cluster mass profies in the full radial range, (2) constrain their virial masses and structure parameters, (3) derive the representative radial shape of equilibrium cluster mass profiles, and (4) robustly measure the average degree of mass concentration to 10% accuracy, providing precise observational challenges to test cosmological models and cosmic structure formation scenarios.
