(Proposal ID) S13A-047 (PI) Daddi, Emanuele (Proposal Title) Environmental effects on SFR, AGN and metals in a z = 2 galaxy cluster (Abstract) We have performed the deepest HST+WFC3 spectroscopic survey in the field of the evolved z=2 galaxy cluster Cl J1449+0856, obtaining reliable [OIII]+H beta detections of 68 galaxies, of which 25% belong to the cluster structure. We propose to follow up all these galaxies with Subaru+MOIRCS in order to measure also their H alpha +[NII] lines, not accessible from the HST grism data. This will allow us to place all galaxies in the BPT diagram, distinguishing AGNs and star forming galaxies, and accurately derive metallicity, SFR and reddening for the latter. We will thus be able to perform the first detailed study of the effect of cluster environments on the AGN and SF activity of galaxies, as well as metal enrichment history, at large unprecedented redshifts. Our z = 2 cluster is both evolved, with detectable X-ray emission and strong overdensity of passive ellipticals, but also young and still forming, as shown by significant AGN/SF/merging activity, making it an ideal place to carry out this study.
