MOIRCS FiltersBroadband FiltersThe following table lists the broad-band filters currently installed in MOIRCS, together with their estimated sensitivities. The transmission curves of each filter are from the data sheets supplied by the company. Estimated sensitivities listed are for a 5 sigma detection in 1 hour of integration, assuming good (0.5'') seeing and a moderately dark sky (Please see the Exposures page) . Point sources are measured in a 1.0'' diameter aperture. Extended source sensitivities are per pixel.Broad-Band Filters
Notes:The Imaging Exposure Time Calculator is available. Please note that the total observation time calculated by it is just the approximate value, as it does not treat the time for dithering and coadding appropriately. You can instead calculate the accurate overhead time using our overhead calculator (Excel format). It is available in the "Guide to Imaging Exposure Times" page. Narrow-Band FiltersThe central wavelength (CW) and band width (BW: defined by FWHM) of filters listed below are mostly from the direct measurement as installed in MOIRCS. The measurement values show very good agreement with the company-provided datasheets. Peak transmittance are around 80 to 90%, except for H2 and Kcont filters. Narrow-Band Filters
(1) They are originally the user (carry-in) filters. Please read the policy for use. (2) The data are not from the direct measurement but from the datasheet by supplied companies. (3) The transimission curve presented here is the data directly measured from the dome flat. (4) The background level of NB119 filter is very dark. Minimum exposure of ~30 minutes is sometimes required to reach the background-noise-limited case. Sky subtraction is generally difficult due to the change of the background. (5) Turret position of CO and Kcont filters were swapped in August 2013. CO is moved to the 1st turret (for filters), while Kcont is in the 3rd turret (for grisms). Basic characteristics should not change significantly.
The Shift of Transmission Curve within the FOV ND filterA ND filter is available mainly for Ks-band dome flat acquisition (from S11A). It can also be used for JHK observation of bright standard stars with limited accuracy. For more detail, ask the SA.
Note: values are based on the counts of dome flats with and without the ND filter (measured Feb 2014). User FiltersWe are accepting the user filters since S07A. The detail and the user filter policy can be found in the User Filter Policy page. Unfortunately, the vacant turret slot is not available for now. Please note that all data on these pages are subject to change as the evaluation of the performance of MOIRCS progresses. Updated 2014-02-16 |
