The following four people will execute the observations.
Basic telescope operation is performed by the Telescope Operator.
Observers can NOT control the telescope directly.
He/She will use the work stations called TWS1 and TWS2.
Basic FOCAS operation is performed by the Instrument Operator. He/She will do all the FOCAS operations (monitoring the instrument, sending commands, etc.) with the SOSS (Subaru Observation Support System) based on your Observation Procedure file (*ope).
Observers should tell him/her what to do next (specify commands in the procedure file), and he/she will operate. Observers can NOT control the instrument directly.
He/She will use the work stations called OWS1, OWS2 (for SOSS), VGW (for AG), FOCAS-OBCP on KVM (for FOCAS).
The support scientist will help you do better (hopefully the best) observations.
Before the observation: He will help the observer make the Operation Procedure file (*ope).
During the observation: He will advise the observers for better results.
After the observation: He will help the observers do their data analysis.
He will NOT directly operate the telescope/FOCAS during the night. However in case of some unexpected troubles, he will help the instrument operator for recovery of troubles.
Observers prepare the Operation Procedure file (*.ope) before coming to the summit. It is very important, and the observation is made based on this file. Ask the SS for the detail.
They will also check the telescope/FOCAS on a work station called OWS3, but cannot control them directly from OWS3.
They will check the FOCAS-OBCP (on KVM) for the detail of the FOCAS status. The FOCAS status GUI is shown on this computer. However, NEVER touch this computer since an inappropriate operation may damage the instrument seriously. Only the instrument operator can operate from this computer. Just enjoy SEEing how FOCAS is working.
They can edit the Observation Procedure File (*.ope) even during the night. Before editing, please ask IO or SS. If not appropriately edited, the SOSS might fail.
Observers can do a quick data reduction with ANA work station.
They will use ANA (for data analysis), and OWS3 (for monitoring the telescope/instrument).
