Occasional CD Problem and Its Solution

CD does not start 

case 1

• How to discover

  You see the following messages.

  
  falcon@focas2[1]_% cdstart
  /export/scr/home/falcon/data
  Initializing program components...
  Server not available
  java.lang.NullPointerException
  at falcon.rpc.CERpcClient.<init>(Compiled Code)
  at falcon.CDbase.createProgramComponents(Compiled Code)
  at falcon.CD.main(Compiled Code)
  

• Why?

  "CE" has not been started.

• Solution
  

  Check "CE" running status.

case 2

• How to discover

  There is a message, "Connection Established," however, it stops after another message asking about the setup of "unit? (?=0-9), etc."

• Why?

  The term, "unit," is used to denote as Shimizu board (Local Control Unit) of which restored up to 10. CD cannot establish a connection with a board that has come to stop.

• Solution

  Reset the Shimizu board.

  There is a connector that consists of a bundle of red and black lines on the right side off the center of VME rack. Take this out and insert it back after a while so that all the boards are reset.

  If this would not work, the board needs to be changed.
