MOS troubles and solutions
If nothing about MOS starts
moving when MOS commands are sent, there are some troubles.
- When the MOS is moving normally, "MOS moving...." is displayed in
the CD terminal. MOS move may take 2 min. Wait until this message
disappears with patience.
- However, the MOS moving messages continue appearing over 5 min.,
there could be something wrong.
Solutions:
MOS failure is very serious, so try to solve the problem
deliberately. Be sure to go through the reset process from the top. The
more powerful the reset, the further down you go.
Solution 1: Just restart CD
- Do "CD exit" in "processes" in UI.
- If CD dose not respond, quit CD
with Ctrl+C on the CD screen.
- Press "CD" button on the
FALCONMENU to restart CD.
- Wait for the all UI
buttons turns into green. It may take a minute. Then press "Get All
Status" button on the UI.
- Be sure to initialize MOS
by "Init" before continuing the observation.
Solution 2: Initialize MOS sequencer
remotely
- Quite CD as shown above.
- Log into FOCAS2 with falcon account,
and type "mos.java /dev/cua/10".
- Type "CR" and send <ENTER> on
the mos.java program.
- If "CC" message is returned, it is
OK.
- In case of no response, go to the solution 3 below.
- Issue "recover" command in the
mos.java program.
- It will take ~5 minutes. (This is similar to issuing MOS init
from the UI.)
- Quit the mos.java program by typing "exit".
- Press "CD" button on
the FALCONMENU to restart CD.
- Be sure to initialize MOS
by "Init" before continuing the observation.
Solution 3: Initialize MOS sequencer
locally
- Cycle the MOS breaker (turn it off and on. Take some time.) in
the power distribution box of FOCAS in the dome.
- When necessary, move the telescope to zenith to access the power
distribution box.
- Follow the solution 2 above to start
mos.java to recover it.
- Press "CD" button on the
FALCONMENU to restart CD.
- Be sure to initialize MOS
by "Init" before continuing the observation.
