11: The Road to the Summit

The road to the summit is unpaved for 5 of the 8 miles with many curves and steep hills. Four-wheel drive is used on the unpaved portion, and it must be driven on slowly and cautiously. Since the air becomes thinner as you proceed higher, you may begin to feel light-headed. In winter, when there is a chance of snow and ice, tire chains may be used.
